11 Ways to Reduce Procrastination at Work

We procrastinate at work in a number of ways.  Give yourself a tick for each of the following that you do:

  • Paying bills
  • Discussing complaints
  • Returning phone calls
  • Completing that project
  • Updating your Resume
  • Hanging around the water cooler
  • Excessive networking to avoid working
  • Showing an interest in office gossip
  • Finding a new job if we are unhappy at work

Procrastination chews up a lot of time.  In today’s day and age, that is opportunities that are lost.  The results of procrastination are:
  • Not meeting that due date for work
  • Not getting that promotion or ideal job
  • Getting that sale
  • Tunnel vision – not seeing the big picture

What we can do to reduce our procrastination:

  1. Use your job description as a guide
  2. Don’t put off dealing with problems
  3. Learn to say not if it is not your responsibility
  4. Delegate tasks based on ability to perform them
  5. Use the support of our team
  6. Is it really that urgent?
  7. Do a thorough job on a report
  8. Is that meeting absolutely necessary?
  9. Do unpleasant tasks first
  10. Praise employees for a job well done
  11. If you are stuck, ask for help
